ὁ δὲ ἀνεξέταστος βίος οὐ βιωτὸς ἀνθρώπῳ
“The unexamined life is not worth living”.
Plato, attributed to Socrates.
I began writing these pieces in November 2019 for a private Facebook group which represented mostly Europhile, liberal and non-Tory viewpoints. I migrated them to a public Facebook page so that people could share them. They are now going to be hosted here so that I can avoid Facebook as much as possible.
Generally speaking, this blog is Europhile, but not blindly so. It is not Eurosceptic. It is fiscally socialist and culturally liberal. It does not subscribe to conspiracy theories and, where it discusses scientific issues, will not feature anything that is not backed by peer reviewed articles in a credible source. There may not be a bibliography attached to every piece I write, but if asked, I will direct you to my sources.
I do not represent any political party, but critique all equally. I am not paid by any political party, and belong to none. I have no sponsorships or affiliations, and would not accept any. I value my independence, and understand that writing entails a responsibility for accuracy and, to a degree, impartiality. Of course I have opinions: who doesn’t? I believe that intolerance of intolerance is not, paradoxically, intolerance, and that evil triumphs when the “good” do nothing.
